Taking color by storm
Taking color by storm
Born into an artistic family , I was taught the color wheel before I was in the first grade. The expression of line, the power of color, and the movement expressed in brush stroke were conveyed to me by my grandfather, a painter.
While living in Europe, my exposure to many artists and art movements of Germany, Austria, Norway, and Italy has forever influenced and changed my intent and vision. The Blue Rider Group of Munich, Gustav Klimt and the Vienna Secession, and the expressionists of The Bridge in Dresden opened my eyes and put a new excitement to my life-long desire to create art.
I use mainly acrylic and oil paint on canvas. I employ brushes, palette knifes, and sometimes cotton cloths to move the paint listening to & trusting my intuition. I always start with a plan, but I don’t hesitate to deviate from that plan when an idea or feeling presents itself. Creating original art in the way of German expressionism Is a natural occurrence for me. I am driven to create large pieces, but understand the limits people have on space and try to create medium or even small pieces when I can.
As an artist, when I look at my paintings, I see places I have been and the responses I sensed while there. What do others see when they look at the images I’ve created? I can only guess and I ALWAYS love to hear. I strive for a vague, or implied quality in my art just so that others with be reminded of THEIR past moments in places or even in their dreamed-of futures.
I would definitely consider myself an expressionist as my goals are to convey emotion and tell stories of human experience. I have a unique interpretation of these events through my overriding interest in things that are slightly otherworldly and contain dreamlike mystery.
